Everyone, especially children, very need milk for adequate needs of vitamin D, nutrition, and calcium. But unfortunately, compared to other Southeast Asian countries, milk consumption in Indonesia is lowest.

Dr. IR Erica B Laconi, MS, Lecturer of Technology and Industry of Foods, said with according to data issued by the Ministry of Agriculture in 2007, milk consumption is 6 liters per capita per year, Malaysia 20 liters per capita per year, India 45 liters per year , and Vietnam more than 10 liters per capita per year.

According to Erica, the low consumption of milk is not because of low income per capita, but low awareness of the importance of milk. “Parents, especially fathers, are more likely to buy cigarettes than milk for their children,” said Erica.

If it continues, Erica fear if there is lost generation that result in low quality of Indonesian human resources. Each person should consume at least one glass of milk a day, it’s very helpful. More than will be better. Do not be afraid of fat because milk does not make fat.
