Too Much Vitamins Is Not Good for Body

Consume vitamins and minerals in large quantities can be bad for the body, warned the National Food and Drug Administration in the UK, the FSA. Some additional foods (supplements) are generally safe for consumption, the FSA said in a statement.

But the appeals, the agency said chromium picolinate supplement with high levels can cause cancer and drink a few other minerals and vitamins used in a long time can be dangerous.

Three types of supplements such as vitamin C, calcium and iron can cause harmful effects if taken in high doses even for a short period and symptoms may disappear when consumption is stopped immediately.

“In many cases we can get enough nutrients from a balanced diet, but many people who choose to consume supplements.”

“Taking high-dose supplements over a long enough period can be dangerous,” said Sir John Krebs, director of the FSA.

FSA said the size of vitamin C 1000 mg, 1500 mg calcium and 17 mg of iron per day is the amount that can cause stomach upset or diarrhea in some people though these symptoms disappear as soon as discontinued consumption.

FSA also advised to consume vitamin B6 did not exceed 10 mg per day unless your doctor prescribed.

Beta-carotene anti-oxidant, found in fruits and vegetables are colored orange or yellow will be able to create effects that are harmful to the smoker when consumed for long time period.

The manganese element can be dangerous for the elderly after consumed during a certain period, whereas nicotine acid, zinc and phosphorus can be dangerous to health when consumed in a long time period.

Recommendation and suggestion of the FSA can be found on the website based on research and pilot tests of evidence about the safety of vitamins and minerals with the aim of helping consumers to the right choice.

“In addition, the FSA is still considering what action will be taken against the supplement industry,” said Krebs.

FSA review the instructions consumption 34 vitamins and minerals, especially emphasizing the problem right time for the body in the general case.
