Coffee Better to Men than Women

According to a new study that was conducted by the University of Barcelona, men feel more awake and more agile than women after consumed caffeine beverages. In this study, respondents are asked to drink a cup of espresso (100 mg caffeine), and assess what they felt 10, 20, and 30 minutes afterward. Did they feel fresher? Men was reported not feel so sleepy after only 10 minutes, and still feel it during the next half hour. While women also feel the espresso, but found weaker than that enjoyed by men.

Surprisingly, when stimulation of caffeine was reduced, the woman can feel it. By using the same method, the researchers explored the effects of coffee without caffeine (only 5 mg caffeine). Within 10 minutes after consumed non caffeine coffee, women were reported feeling fresher than men.

Research was conducted because the various studies that have been done only demonstrate stimulation effect on caffeine, and not explore the gender effect in the context of consumers. Research on the effect of caffeine tends to be made using the preparation, where the caffeine content is much higher than in normal feed. According to Ana Adan, Ph.D., author and head of research Psychopharmacology and Drug Dependence Group at the University of Barcelona, the new study lies in the differences seen in the impact on men and women, based on the amount of caffeine consumed in 99 percent cases.

To measure the effect of caffeine, the researchers used a sample of 668 students (238 men and 450 women) with a range of age 22 years. Measurements made before and after caffeine digested (10, 20, and 30 minutes), and done in the middle of day (at 11:00 to 13:00) and afternoon (at 16:00 to 18:00). It aimed to control the many different possibilities, which may be caused by time.

From the results of the study, Adan also concluded, if we are not drinking caffeine, then the decaf coffee will also provide benefits. This must still be evaluated, is the influence only subjective, and whether is there influence on the appearance.
